Quality reports of the hospitals: The 2020 case numbers show exciting developments

The latest case numbers for the reporting year 2020 were again processed using our long-established reprocessing processes. As of now, the case numbers of all diagnoses, operations and procedures of the hospitals and departments are available.

Initial analyses of the new data confirm the negative effect on case numbers expected by Corona.

As chart 1 shows, surgeries & procedures have declined by around 8% and principal diagnoses by as much as 12%.

Chart 1: Change in clinic case numbers 2019 vs. 2020

However, even if the number of cases declined slightly overall in 2020, this development cannot be applied across the board to all areas.

An examination of the changes in the number of cases (chart 2) in the top 15 department types clearly shows that the various disciplines are affected to quite different degrees.
For example, gynaecology departments show rather small declines in the number of cases, both in terms of diagnoses and operations and procedures, while ENT and psychiatric departments, for example, each have to report much larger losses.

Chart 2: Changes at the level of department types

This makes it clear that when looking at the new data, it is the details that matter and the areas that are relevant for the healthcare companies in each case should be closely examined.

For this purpose, we provide a user-friendly solution with our KlinikNavigator, for example. The web tool contains a variety of analysis tools and thus offers optimal access to the clinic data.
In addition, we naturally support our customers with further, completely individual solutions and project ideas.

If you are interested in the data or would like additional information on the changes, please contact Mr. Tim Oliver Strauch by e-mail or by phone at +49.521.2997-415. We have also prepared a free report for you, which you can request directly from Mr. Strauch.

SALETELLIGENCE guest on the Healthcare Changers Podcast

Martin Walter from SALETELLIGENCE, together with Dominik Flener and René Neubach, spoke on the Healthcare Changers Podcast about the exciting topic “From data graveyard to data treasure – a cross-section through the data spectrum”.

On the one hand, current developments in the data sector were examined and evaluated in more detail, but also the current possibilities were discussed: e.g. how to expand classic targeting questions with the dimension of “digital affinity” and much more.

The result was a really exciting conversation.

The podcast can be found on the following platforms:

SpitalNavigator Austria: The case NUmbers for 2020 are herE

As a valid and objective data source, the SALETELLIGENCE SpitalNavigator can provide valuable insights into customer potential in hospitals for a wide range of diseases and indications.

Since a few days, the new annual numbers for a large number of diagnoses & services are available down to hospital level for the data year 2020!

Our Navigator contains all hospitals and their departments including further information (e.g. beds, equipment, etc.). In addition, the tool contains >5,000 outpatient departments/special outpatient departments incl. department affiliation, opening hours and contact persons.

All data can be queried as often as desired and by up to 20 users within the company. In addition, numerous functions for selection and analysis are available, so that an optimal data source is available in the hospital sector. Learn more about the tool here.

Corona effect on hospital case numbers 2020

The data year 2020 was a special one due to the Corona pandemic and has led to major changes in the entire health system, but especially in the hospitals. This becomes clear when one looks at the current hospital case numbers in detail:

  • If one looks at the hospitals with reported case numbers for 2019 and 2020, a clear decrease in the total case numbers of approx. 18% can be seen for 2020.
  • The areas of “Respiratory system”, “Pregnancy and birth”, “Transplants” and “Other areas” have only fallen slightly per category (please see following chart). In the areas of “Eye”, “ENT and face and teeth” as well as “Skin and breast” there were significantly fewer cases.
  • Interesting changes can also be seen per fine category: e.g. pneumonia has risen sharply while the number of caesarean sections has hardly changed. Tonsil operations, on the other hand, have fallen sharply.

Rare Disease Day 2022

Rare diseases are a great challenge, especially for the patients affected and the doctors treating them. Often, the path to a suitable diagnosis and thus also to a targeted therapy is very long and rocky. Rare Disease Day is intended to draw attention to the large number of these diseases.

Even for the healthcare industry, the distribution of an orphan drug cannot be compared to other pharmaceutical products. Classical methods of sales force planning usually do not work and creativity and new ways are required.

With our data and solutions, we have been supporting companies very successfully with their orphan launches for many years. In doing so, we develop new ideas and procedures specifically for the respective issue, e.g. for target group definition and processing.

22nd World Cancer Day

On 04 February 2022 is the 22nd World Cancer Day with the motto “Closing gaps in care”.

For some years now, there has been a multitude of highly innovative therapies, as a result of which the 5-year survival rates of most tumour types are steadily increasing.

When it comes to the issue of gaps in care, the targeted and timely dissemination of information about new therapies & products to physicians plays an important role, among other factors.

With our data-based methods for identifying potential, we can optimally support this step for pharmaceutical sales forces. We combine in-house knowledge with regional market information and very detailed and extensive desk research. The resulting data cube is then analysed with statistical models refined over many years and converted into concrete recommendations.

In this way, new information reaches the relevant doctors early and precisely, and patient care is further improved.

Christmas Bakery 2021 – THe recipes

This year, we are foregoing gifts to our customers and instead supporting the mourning work at the Bethel Children’s Hospice with a donation of 3,000 euros.

Long before the last phase of a child’s life begins and often long after the death of the sick child, the Bethel Children’s and Youth Hospice supports families on the path of saying goodbye: to a loved one and to dreams and life plans!

For those affected, this support is a very important help, as they very often remain alone with their loss. Friends and family members often do not know how to deal with the situation and in many cases withdraw. Thus, the children’s and youth hospice becomes an important contact point for the families, who gratefully take advantage of the offer of grief counselling.

Since the health insurance companies do not cover the costs of this offer, the families can only be helped with the help of donations. An important institution from Bielefeld that we are happy to support!

Data merging 4.0: Use of fuzzy algorithms

Large amounts of data from many different and unlinked data sources are a real challenge in data processing. Often there are no unique keys for linking in different data sources. Furthermore data records that are actually the same easily have different spellings & misspellings, missing information or double entries (duplicates).

Therefore, e.g. address matching of different data sources is often only possible with a lot of time (often also manual checks). Due to this reason matching tasks are only carried out when absolutely necessary.
But: it is precisely well-linked data that brings the real added value for analysis and practical use by the staff!

Since we are confronted with the issue of data merging / matching on a daily basis in our projects, we have taken our existing matching procedures to the next level. We now use fuzzy algorithms that can optimally support us in finding data matches. Of course, detailed cross-checking is still done manually for quality assurance.

In this way, we regularly achieve very high assignment rates, which then provide a high added value for further processing and our analysis questions.

So if you also despair of your unlinked data, then contact us directly!
